BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Buffalo Police told News 4 they arrested six people for disorderly conduct and trespassing during the rally for presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Lt. Jeff Rinaldo said four people were arrested on the First Niagara Center property for refusing to leave. Police also arrested two people after protesters went on the Metro Rail line at the Main St. and Exchange lot.
News 4 witnessed Sheriff’s Deputies remove a group of 14 people from the event. Deputies carried out at least two protesters by holding onto their arms and legs. Buffalo Police arrested two of the members of that group for refusing to leave the property.
More than 100 protesters gathered outside First Niagara Center Monday afternoon. They held signs that said “Dump Trump” and “Black Lives matter”.
“We’re just concerned that Trump’s views are really inhumane and dangerous,” said Walter Simpson, an activist. “We’ve been concerned about world peace for years and the last thing we want is a buffoon like Trump with his finger on the nuclear button.”
Other protesters said they have issues with Trump’s policy on immigration and the way he treats minorities.
“Even if he’s not elected, the fact that so many people have turned out to support that message of hate and bigotry, we just wanted to come out and show it’s not going to be tolerated in our town,” said India Walton, another activist.
Protesters were kept across the street from the event and Trump supporters. Metal barricades were put up along the sidewalk and Buffalo Police, NYS Police and Sheriff’s Deputies lined the street to prevent problems. At least 35 Buffalo Peacemakers were also at the event to act as a liaison between protesters and law enforcement.
“To make sure we’re keeping the community and law enforcement safe at all times and there is no type of riot or unnecessary need for an uproar,” said Lamont Gibson, a peacemaker. “Our second role today is working with two separate parties whether you’re in support of Donald Trump, or if you’re not in support, that they don’t get into a brawl or fight.”
