BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A baby died in a local hospital from drowning in a Black Rock home on Tuesday, according to Buffalo Police.
The 1-year-old girl was found unresponsive in water in the home’s bathroom area. Police are not releasing how the child entered the water, but say her death was accidental.
Homicide detectives are now involved in the investigation, according to a police spokesperson. Child Protective Services is also involved in the case.
Officers responded to 16 Peoria St. around 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday for a rescue call. This is where the child was found.
The child was rushed to Women and Children’s Hospital where she died.
Police say family members were home during the time of the incident.
Neighbors told News 4 they saw other children playing outside the home Tuesday. Neighbor Melissa Gormady said she’s shocked this happened.
“We’re a real tight knit community over here on this side of the street,” she said. “We always get together, we always look out for each other. If something is going on we call and ask what’s going on, Is everything alright, stuff like that. We’re like a family just on this street.”
Multiple neighbors told us the people living in the home are renters who just moved in during the fall. They say there are a number of adults and children living there.
