NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB)- Police have arrested Jerome Wingfield, 32, for the fire that displaced 20 people in Niagara Falls.
The Niagara Falls resident has been charged with arson, burglary and reckless endangerment.
Police say Wingfield unlawfully entered the property at 1967 Niagara St. The boarding house caught fire Friday night around 7:19 p.m. Police told News 4 the fire started in a second floor bedroom in the back of the building.
Everyone was rescued from the building but two people were injured. Mayor Dyster said they “leapt from the upper floor to the adjoining flat roof to facilitate rescue.”
He told News 4 the Red Cross is assisting the residents.
