SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB)- Thousands of Christmas lights illuminate a street in Springville for the holidays. It’s a seven year tradition that many people look forward to.

“We’re the house with all of the lights,” said Jim Jozwiak, who put up 23,000 lights on his Mill St. property.

It features pieces of Western New York history.

“The two on the lower part of the house are from the Village of Springville that were on the lamp post and the two on the second story where the LED strips are, those were from the Festival of Lights lamp posts in Niagara Falls,” explained Jozwiak.

Friends and family members have given him some lights, others were random donations.

“People actually go garbage picking and see big stuff that actually quit working and then my wife and I will go through it over the summer time,” Jozwiak explained.

He and his wife fix the lights and then in September he starts working on the show.

It’s a tradition he’s had since 2008, when his wife got sick.

“We used to love going around and seeing Christmas lights and stuff and she wasn’t able to do it that year,” he said. “We did a basic decoration in our yard so she could watch out the front at the lights.”

It was his first choreographed light and music show. Now, it’s so big the show has its own radio station. It also has a new goal, they ask for food donations from people who visit the show.

“Within a one month period we doubled the amount of food we were getting this year, we have just about 1,200-1,300 pounds of food,” said Jozwiak.

It all goes to two local food pantries.

“Christmas is for everyone,” he said. “No matter how bad you have it there’s always someone worse off than you so always look on the bright side.”

The light display is their way of giving back to the community that always takes the time to stop by and watch the show.

It will be up through New Year’s Day and it runs from 5:00-11:00 p.m. On Christmas Eve and Christmas, it will run 24/7.
