BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- University Police at Buffalo State College are looking for the man who robbed a student at knife point early Tuesday morning. It’s the third robbery on campus this year.
The crime happened around midnight as a commuter student walked in the parking lot at Coyer Field, on Grant Street. University Police told News 4 someone walked into the parking lot and demanded property at knife point.
The student ran away and the robber followed until the student dropped his phone. The suspect picked it up and that’s when the chase reversed itself, as the student ran after the suspect.
The student eventually gave up and called security.
This is the third robbery on campus this year, in addition to an attempted robbery. Campus records show in 2014 there were two robberies and in 2013 there was only one.
“All categories of violent crime and property crime are stable or down but we did have that period of time in September where we had a few crimes in a short period of time,” said Chief Peter Carey, with University Police. “Prior to that and subsequent to that crimes have stabilized. The weather is warmer so our students are out more and, again, be vigilant, be aware of your surroundings.”
University Police don’t know if this suspect is a student or not. They said he was wearing a black bubble coat and dark jeans and he fled onto campus toward the Tower residence halls.
